Breakfast in the City
To be honest there is only one place I must go to when I spend a weekend in San Francisco. 20th Century Café can be found on the corner of Gough street and Oak street in the Hayes Valley district. Despite the minimal interior, this place has lots of character and an incredibly tasty breakfast! Without fail, I always order the bagel and lox. I’ve been here plenty of times with my sisters who have had the other items on the menu to know that everything else is just as good, but my heart lies with their smoked salmon on top of an everything bagel.
It was Easter weekend when I returned to SF, and I did so with a few more months of photography practice under my belt. I was ready to capture tons of photos of this sweet little café, so I arrived as soon as it opened. 20th Century Café fills up rather quickly and I had to make sure I could get my shot! I hate to be annoying with my camera and switching lenses, but it helps when there are fewer people around and the girls working at the café were really sweet about my impromptu photoshoot!
Since I like to eat breakfast as soon as I wake up, the 10am opening time on a Saturday could not come soon enough. Matt and I met my sister and her boyfriend at 9:58am, waiting patiently for the doors to open. After a quick look at the menu we made our selection and took a seat. I, also, snagged a layered almond cake to sustain our hunger cravings while our open faced bagels were being prepared. Doesn’t it look delicious?! Well-it was! The large latte was also incredible, but the breakfast is my absolute favorite. I had a bite of Matt’s pastrami eggs on a poppy seed bagel and there’s a chance I will switch up my usual favorite for that order next time! What I also love about 20th Century Café is that they constantly switch up the breakfast options- no matter what you can find the bagel and lox, but it makes it a great breakfast spot if you are the kind of person who likes to mix it up.
If you live in San Francisco or are visiting for the weekend, then I recommend giving 20th Century Café a try! Go as soon as they open and you will be very pleased with your equally beautiful and tasty breakfast.
